Teaching Living
History-
In this workshop I go
through each of the time periods and explain the main points. I give
a very large list of literature books I recommend for each time period. I
put great emphasis on the fact that the people and historical events were
intertwined and influenced each other. We will be discussing how a
person in history’s worldview influenced what they did, what they
invented, what they painted, and the people around them. I show how you
can use great literature and living books to teach history, science,
literature, and language arts with ease. I have a handout of
the books I recommend and tell the parents where to get them. Each
parent will also be provided with a history overview showing the lifetimes
of famous painters, musicians, inventors and so forth, to show them how
they influenced each other’s thinking. We will briefly touch on
how you can incorporate living history events to make history really come
to life for your kids.
Learning
History through Living History Events-
In this workshop we will be
discussing how you can incorporate living history events into your
child’s education whether you want to just watch or get involved. My
entire family will come dressed as the characters they portray at a civil
war re-enactment. We will be explaining why they dressed the way
they did. This workshop is great for kids and parents alike,
although children sit spellbound as we play our characters. We will
be discussing the value of re-enacting, how to get involved, how to tie in
literature and do the research to portray your character true to life.
I will be handing out a long list of recommended books on the civil war
period. Since we are involved in Civil War re-enacting we will be
discussing the civil war and how we play our characters. I have
listed some of the points we will be discussing below. We stay out
of the politics of the war and focus on the facts.
1. How
they lived, dressed and behaved
2. Social
Classes and education
3.
Health and medicine. Reasons why the death rates were so high. You will be
surprised.
4.
How Hollywood does the Civil War all wrong
5. Women’s
and children’s roles during the war
6.
Mourning and Mourning Customs
I Just Can’t Do This
Anymore!!!
Have you ever made this
statement to your husband or a friend? Carol has homeschooled four
children for 18 years. She will help you to identify where your own
stress is coming from, then she will teach you the tricks she has used to
avoid the stress, deal with burnout, PMS, and boredom in children. Carol
will show you her family's daily schedule, how they get things done, how
to get organized as well as how to pick a program that will work for your
children and your lifestyle, this alone will reduce mountains of stress.
You'll learn how to make your children more independent while still giving
them a superior education. So come on in, put your feet up and learn
